The Thing-A-Ma-Jig is such a cool tool for beaders! You’re making customized and unique pendants, links and clasps for your jewelry designs. It’s like magic but still so easy to do! You just twist and turn the wire round the pegs, and you have a new pendant! The wire you can use with a Thing-A-Ma-Jig comes in the common metals like silver, gold, copper, but also in vivid colors like black, red or blue. These colors can really lift your jewelry designs.
You can follow a pattern when you’re creating with the Thing-A-Ma-Jig, but making your own wire designs without patterns is to die for. My mother did that, formed a beautiful Sunflower pendant in the matter of minutes using my Thing-A-Ma-Jig. After that I had to help her buying her own since she didn’t want to let go of mine! :)
It’s possible to use any jewelry wire ranging from 20 Ga to 14 Ga. Something to consider though, is that the wire must be soft enough to be twisted around the pegs. Sterling silver wire is very useful in many designs, especially if your making metal clay or sterling silver jewelry.
I have the Thing-A-Ma-Jig Deluxe, it’s perfect I think, because every part of it is made of metal, so it can’t break like the plastic jigs. With this model you get 3 dimensions of pegs, which makes it possible for you to make even more vibrant designs.
The pegs can be moved around anywhere on the Thing-A-Ma-Jig, and if you’ve lost some there are peg refills for most jig models. After you have positioned the pegs where you want them, you just twist the wire round the pegs in any shape you want or at the direction the pattern is shows you.
When you’re satisfied with the shape of the wire, remove it from the Thing-A-Ma-Jig. Take the new wire piece and nylon jaw pliers to make the final adjustments to it. It’s so easy, just add a pendant, link or clasp to any jewelry you want for a stunning design.
