This is what happened here, right now Yesterday there was a freezing cold wind and rainy weather (no inspiration) but now spring is here! It’s fantastic, I love it! I enjoyed the making my first crystal bead necklace so much…

My Making of the Crystal Beads Jewelry

The pearl crystal necklace is made with yellow and white pearl beads along with crystal beads and crystal spacers. The colors vary from yellow to light pink and white. The simple design of a ball chain together with a large black gemstone bead… becomes my silver wing necklace! To begin with I had two silver wing pendants, bought them in a pair.

My first silver wing I used in a necklace with brown braided leather cord, the silver wing placed in center of the necklace. That one was for my husband, he has worn it a lot. You can his necklace in my post: Men’s Jewelry With Sterling Silver Wing.

I had a conversation with a friend at work some time ago and we were talking about cinnabar beads, how beautiful they are! But we were also discussing what they are made of. My friend guessed porcelain… But is it? I decided to take a look into that. Hmm what are cinnabar beads really made of… This is what I dug up:

What is cinnabar?

Cinnabar, also called Chinese Lacquer, is a famous Chinese handicraft. Traditionally, cinnabar items were created by painting multiple layers of lacquer onto it, letting the item dry between each coat, and then carving the resulting layers of lacquer into amazing patterns. The name comes from the toxic red mineral cinnabar (mercury sulfide) that was once added to give the special red color to the lacquer.

Now days, cinnabar beads and jewelry are formed from a dyed red resin which contains no harmful cinnabar. However, it looks pretty much the same. Red is the most popular color of cinnabar jewelry, but there is also blue, black, brown and green.

Together with the cinnabar beads in this necklace I used turquoise chips and some black glass beads. It’s fun to make double strand necklaces, combining the beads in a wider perspective to make the necklace come together nicely.

When making silver jewelry components, the best clay to use is PMC 3 (precious metal clay). Some people are using art clay silver, but since PMC 3 is stronger than art clay I use precious metal clay in all my jewellry.

Precious Metal Clay Necklaces

The dog tag necklace has a very simple design really. I’ve just added a ball chain and a jump ring to it. A huge advantage of a simple jewelry design is the versatility, being able to use it all the time if you want.

The other necklace is a mens metal clay jewelry which I gave to my husband. I made it with a rough surface which gives that old feel about it.

Earrings making is so much fun too! The best way to get a pair of earring pendants to have the same shape is to sand them back to back, like a sandwich. That’s to say in the bone dry state before firing. Making faux enamel on precious metal clay earrings or jewelry.

Earlier I have also used white chinese porcelain animal beads, that was when I made a macramé bracelet. I had a great time doing making it!

Also porcelain beads looks handmade so I can see their rich history in front of me… The smooth surface on a porcelain bead is very nice too…

Pink Jewelry Doll Stand Display

The last time I saw that jewelry doll, it was placed on her night stand. So this is partially why I needed to make more jewelry stands. I wonder how long I will be able to keep it? Right now me and my husband is having a glass of wine together, he is working I’m blogging. Haha a perfect combo!

Ohh my new pink jewelry doll stand, where will I put it? Any ideas? Hmm I need to hang my latest necklace designs on something…. It will be this lady dolls occupation to keep them pretty for the eye!

Maybe I mentioned it before, but I have moved! I have moved from Oslo, Norway to Stockholm, Sweden. My husband got a great job here so we were so happy to be able to move back. I have missed Sweden so much actually, nowhere is like home I’m enjoying everyday as I wake up here to see the sun shining on my balcony. I’ve had lots of coffee on our balcony the past few days, I LOVE IT!

Men’s Jewelry: Leather cord Necklace

It’s not everyday which I come up with a jewelry design as quick as this one. Usually I try many different ideas before I make my decision, but this necklace was crystal clear from the beginning! I have been saving this sterling silver wing for that special jewelry design.

Men’s Jewelry: Leather Cord Bracelet

As for the bracelet I found these metal beads I altered them from being spacers with eyes to regular beads… That was done quickly with a little help of the flush cutter… I just cut off the “eyes” and there we go, done!

When using glue to attach the clasp to the leather cord I recommend to use a good quality glue and let it dry properly, so that the cord ends doesn’t slip out of the clasp. I also imagine that lots of men’s jewellery is heavily worn by their owners. My husband sometimes wears a necklace for months… so I make them durable!

The simple design looks fantastic with that classic black dress and the hairstyle. Yet this is one of the easiest necklace designs to make yourself, isn’t that cool!? Turquoise beads are my big time favorites, I always want to use them in necklaces and other jewelry.

A chunky necklace like this can practically be made with any turquoise gemstone bead!

The irregular nugget beads in the Megan Fox necklace are really nice. You could also use ovals or hexagon shaped beads for your own chunky turquoise necklaces.

If you prefer to separate the beads in the necklace a bit, add small spacers to the design. You can use seed beads or metal beads as spacers.

Remember that turquoise beads with a warm color tone, will look much better with antique golden spacers and findings, while antique silver beads is the best choice for turquoise beads that has a cold color tone. If you compare these colors together you will see what I mean…

Now, all you need to do is to get your beading flex wire and assembly your new turquoise necklace! Flex-wire is the best wire ever, I use it all the time when I string necklaces! This wire maintains the shape of the necklace and it never looks stiff.

So what needs to be done to it? Well, the crystal necklace is lacking it’s Swarovski pendant, so I need a new one. In the morning I head of to the bead shops to find a suitable pendant!

At the first shop Tartaruga I couldn’t find anything, all their Swarovski pendants were too small for my faceted crystal necklace. But I didn’t waste my time there because I found some really cute turquoise beads there which I bought.

After a sandwich and some coffee I moved on to my last bead shop of the day, Perlehuset. And I was lucky because they did have what I was looking for, lots and lots of Swarovski crystal pendants…

I found my perfect faceted pendant, it’s a quite big grey/beige Swarovski drop pendant. I love it, the facets will sparkle so nicely on that beaded necklace!

When I got home I hurried to repair and finish my necklace which had been waiting for so long. I had to make a new bail, because the old was way too small.

So I formed a new one with some sterling silver wire. That’s a fun and fast way to make your own bail for pendants.

The old pendant in the Faceted Crystal Necklace was a Swarovski crystal leaf, much lighter in color than my new pendant as you can see…
