The African Jade gemstone is mined in South Africa, and where it gets the name from. This gemstone is commonly used in jewelry making as beads, graduated fans, nuggets etc. Truth is that it’s not real jade, but actually an opaque garnet that resembles jade. This gemstone contains a mix of colors including white, light green and pink. Many of the African Jade beads for jewelry making may vary in size and shape since the beads are hand-cut and the holes hand-drilled.
Lush shades of avocado green swirl through these beads, which are the of the color nephrite jade with more opacity. Think earth tones, and the combinations are endless in your jewelry making! What’s really great about African Jade is that it’s not enhanced. So it’s easier for you to make jewelry with these beads, because there’s no need to be afraid of ruining surface treatments or any dyed-in colors.
Green garnets like the African Jade are said to bring peace, pureness of thought, unobscured mental capacity, and creativity. True or not, I guess you can’t get enough of those things in your life!
My experience working with African Jade beads is that they genuine and colorful. Even if gemstones are “dead” materials, creating jewelry with them is fantastic and very different from working with manufactured beads. The variations in the beads gives a touch of individuality in the jewelry pieces.
For jewelry making the African Jade comes in these shapes:
- Round beads
- Graduated focal fans
- Coin beads
- Oval beads
- Squares
- Faceted nuggets
I made this African Jade beads jewelry yesterday. It’s a nice feel about a real heavy gemstone jewelry like this one. The celtic knots I have used in this necklace are very good connectors, it’s easy to attach beads and findings to them. African Jade beads fits lovely both silver and gold findings, I used silver for my necklace.

Wow this is very cool. I love green and have alot of jade. I love your design and how u incorporated the round stone with the round rings. A really lovely necklace.
I have never asked. Do you have a shop or do you sell your creations online or?????
I’m so happy you like jade too! Did you make something with your jade? I adore looking at jade jewelry online. I do sell some pieces either by orders or at art trade fares, and I have started working on a special brand which I might sell thorough it’s own website. Not sure when I will be finished with all that, but it’s fun stuff
